Finding a project and Supervisor

Each semester, topics (both specialised and super) are advertised on the EECS Thesis Coursework Projects on the EAIT Project Database.

How can I choose a project for my thesis?

Go to the EECS Thesis Coursework Projects on the EAIT Project Database. Change the filters to ensure the correct semester of commencement has been selected, i.e. Semester 1 2024, and filter by 'EECS'.

You can search on a number of parameters to help you discover topics that interest you. Feel free to approach potential supervisors to ask more about their projects or to suggest topics of you own.

You should try to find a project that interests you and you have a good background for. Then email the supervisor using the template and cc a copy of your email to thesis_enquiries@eecs.uq.edu.au

I have expressed my interest in a project and the supervisor has accepted my request. What about the other projects I expressed interest in?

When I enrol in REIT7820, do I need to go to the Project Database to find a project?

No! You can enrol directly into REIT7820 (you don’t need to go via the Thesis database).

In REIT7820, you will be assigned to a broad thesis them (no need to find a specific topic or supervisor) and the course combines structured, workshop-style learning with strong research components and individual assessment.

REIT7820 runs at a less intense pace over 1 semester and dovetails cleanly with REIT6811. The two courses together provide 4-units of research credit, equivalent to the year-long 4-unit thesis projects.

Can I have a supervisor outside EECS?

Yes, but you must have an EECS academic as your main supervisor. External or industry supervisors can be co-supervisors, but without an EECS supervisor your project cannot be assessed.

The EECS supervisor must oversee the project, add it to the EAIT database, arrange examination, and guide assessment and meetings.
