The School of EECS has mechanisms for consulting with students, one of which is the Student Consultative Committee.

Initially formed with undergraduate representatives, the SCC has been expanded over time to include postgraduate coursework student representatives with the aim to encourage membership covering all of our programs.

The role of the committee is to facilitate two-way communication between the student body and the School:

  • The School consults and advises students on policy developments and changes affecting them;
  • Students raise concerns and make suggestions about the operation of the School as it affects them.

Membership comprises:

  • Student representatives
  • Director of Teaching and Learning, EECS
  • Program Group Convenors
  • 1st Year Advisor (BCompSc/BInfTech)
  • School Manager
  • IT Client Services Manager
  • ETSG Manager

At the beginning of each year students are invited to nominate to join the Committee, and selection is based on ensuring each year of the School's main programs are represented.

Consideration is also given to ensuring international students and female students are represented. All students are welcome to attend meetings and registration is not required.

Students can be added to the mailing list throughout the year by emailing studentenquiries@eecs.uq.edu.au.

Meetings

Meetings take place twice each semester, typically around weeks 5 and 10. Other meetings can be arranged as the need arises. A student is elected as the Chair of the SCC, who ensures the orderly conduct of the meetings. A Student Secretary assists the Staff Secretary to assemble items for the meeting agendas and checks the drafts of the minutes. There is a formal, minuted session where items are raised, results from previous enquiries reported as well as an exchange of information. This can be followed by an informal session where a more free exchange can take place. Meetings typically occur over lunchtime.

Meetings are promoted to the student population beforehand so that individuals can raise issues with their representatives.

The Head of School and/or the Student Consultative Committee (by consensus) may decide that a general meeting of students of the School should be called.

Meeting agendas and minutes can be found here (UQ login required).
