Value Capture From Enterprise AI

Abstract:

Enterprise AI encompasses AI technologies aimed at meeting business and organizational requirements, in contrast to Consumer AI, which is designed for personal usage. Artificial intelligence (AI) has rapidly become a vital technology for organizations, with adoption rates climbing to 72% in 2024—up from a 50% rate observed over the past six years. However, business value of Enterprise AI is subject to variation by role, function, and organization and is contingent upon adoption and utilization.

Although scholars agree on the importance of value creation, there is little consensus on what value creation is, how it can be achieved, and the mechanism that allows the creator of value to capture the value. For AI, given the significance of both the opportunity and risks it presents, the question of value creation is particularly nascent. We posit that developing a better understanding of value creation from Enterprise AI requires a process lens where by explanations on why, how, and when a process unfolds can be elicited to model value creation. The 1^st year of the thesis will use a case study approach to model the value creation process. Moreover, the second and third year will focus on design science artefact for value capture. Interviews from companies 1^st will be conducted first to investigate measurement for capturing value before proposing a new method to capture value from Enterprise AI.

Biography: Nova Sepadyati is a PhD student in Data Science group advised by Prof Shazia Sadiq, Prof Marta Indulska and A/Prof Ida Asadi Someh. Nova completed her bachelor’s in industrial engineering from Parahyangan Catholic University and master’s in operations, projects, and supply chain management from The University of Manchester. Since then, she has worked in several companies in FMCG industry before becoming a faculty member at Petra Christian University, Indonesia.
