The School of EECS is hosting the following HDR Progress Review 1 Confirmation Seminar:

Pose Estimation for Human with Disabilities

Speaker: Jiaying Ying

Host/Chair: Associate Professor Sen Wang

Abstract: Approximately 40 million individuals worldwide live with limb deficiencies, yet they remain largely unrepresented in human pose estimation (HPE) research. Accurate HPE could significantly benefit this population in applications, such as rehabilitation monitoring and health assessment. However, existing research focuses solely on individuals with full physical bodies and overlooks those with limb deficiencies. As a result, current pose estimation annotation formats cannot be generalized to this population.

In this session, I will present the progress of my research, which aims to address this gap by developing inclusive pose estimation approaches tailored to individuals with limb deficiencies. I will also outline the planned work moving forward and discuss its potential impact on both research and real-world applications.

Bio: Jiaying Ying is a second-year Ph.D. student at the School of EECS, University of Queensland, under the supervision of Dr Xin Yu and Prof. Brain Lovell. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Australian National University. His research interests include pose estimation.
