The 2026 UQ Interaction Design Exhibit, Carnival of Futures, brought a lively mix of play, experimentation and imagination to the Andrew N. Liveris Building Forecourt on Friday, 29 May.

Created by students from the Bachelor of Information Technology, User Experience Design major, and the Master of Interaction Design, the exhibit invited visitors to explore what future technology could feel like when it moves beyond screens. With a carnival atmosphere taking over the forecourt, visitors got hands-on with 17 interactive projects showcasing playful futuristic technologies.
The theme encouraged students to think playfully and critically about emerging technologies. Some projects were light-hearted and game-like. Others invited visitors to pause and consider how technology might shape the way we live, connect and make decisions in the future.

The forecourt was full of energy throughout the event, with visitors winning games, climbing on or into installations and chatting with students about how their ideas came together. High school students also came through during the day, giving them an awesome introduction to interaction design and creative technology.
