The University of Queensland’s Australasian Transformer Innovation Centre (TIC) is pleased to announce a two-day face-to-face technical Seminar focusing on the Impact of Renewables on Electrical Network Asset Performance.

Renewable generation has been increasingly deployed in Australia and globally both at the distribution and transmission levels. Primarily, Solar PV and wind are the two dominant renewables in Australia, and they are intermittent, variable, and uncertain. Battery storage has been installed at large scale to balance out the intermittency of renewables and help stabilise the grid.

Since solar PV, wind generation and battery storage consists of considerable inverter/converter-based power electronics systems, these converters may cause power quality issues. Due to variability in generation, harmonics, reverse power flow and voltage variations, renewable generation’s impacts on power system assets (e.g., transformers, circuit breakers etc.) could be significant.

This course is geared to procurement, asset strategies, operations and maintenance managers and engineers in generation, transmission and distribution, renewables manufacturing mining industrial and infrastructure organization.

This two-day face-to-face technical seminar will bring industry professionals together for dialogue and sharing of knowledge to better understand the effects of renewables on the modern power network.

Key outcomes

  • Understand the impact of renewables on the assets of the modern power network.
  • Evolving trends in a renewable dominated network.
  • New condition monitoring techniques that can be applied to assets in a renewable dominated network.
  • The impact of data centres on power equipment used in their operation as well as the network they are connected to.

Presenters

  • The presenters in the sessions will be a mixture of industry professionals and academics that bringing a wealth of practical experience and information with them to these sessions.
  • Keynote speakers will provide a high-level overview of the issues faced by both Transmission and Distribution because of the paradigm shift created by the ever- increasing penetration of renewables in the network.
  • Researchers from University of Queensland.

Who should attend?

  • Procurement, Asset Strategists, maintenance managers and engineers.
  • Generation, transmission, and distribution personnel.
  • Consultants, designers and operations staff in the renewables, manufacturing, mining, industrial and infrastructure groups.
  • Yong engineers just starting out in their career in Power.
