animettes researchAnimettes are novel, configurable puppets that integrate with microcontrollers and sensors, enabling students to develop their understanding of technology as they build characters.

Creating interactive characters fosters students’ imaginative practices and collaborative story building skills. Animettes, although in their infancy, have promoted intrinsic motivation for students to continue to persist, risk-take and collaborate together as they work through problem-solving processes.

Each Animette is designed to be controlled by a simple microcontroller, attached to a break-out board, which allows students to plug in sensor inputs, actuators and outputs.

Next steps

animettes researchWe are currently working to foster collaborations with teachers and language workers to explore how Animettes can be integrated with language applications to support teachers who teach language.
