The School of ITEE has a number of special and advanced topics course codes.

These codes are used for:

  • Summer Special Topics Projects - see next entry - individual projects
  • Individual projects undertaken by students under the supervision of an academic, including over the summer. A small number of academics offer projects which may be completed over one semester. Limited projects and supervisors are available. It is the responsibility of the student to find a suitable project/supervisor. There is no guarantee that any such projects will be available in any given semester and there is no guarantee that any available project will suit the background knowledge of any particular student. Assessment items and deadlines usually follow a set pattern (proposal, presentation, report). Permission from Head of School, to be obtained via email to cswk-studies@itee.uq.edu.au, is required for all students undertaking a Special Topics course. Permission will only be given if:
    • the project is supervised by an ITEE academic
    • a title and description of the project is supplied, and the project is appropriately defined and of appropriate scope
    • the proposed course code is appropriate for the project; and
    • the course will count towards your program (this may be subject to the approval of the EAIT Associate Dean (Academic))
  • Pilot offerings of a new course or a one-off course offered by a visiting academic. Such courses will be advertised to relevant students if they are available and a course profile will be published. There is no guarantee that any such course will be available in the following year or semester.
  • Students undertaking a regular course under a different code for some reason. For example, exceptional fourth year students are sometimes permitted to enrol in a Masters (level 7) course using a level 4 special topics course code.
