Compassionate computing
We are a multidisciplinary team of researchers working towards bringing a positive social change in communities that are under-resourced and under-represented.
We engage with community organizations to design technologies that can support and empower under-represented members of society: refugees, older adults, marginalized women, homeless individuals, people with disabilities and people from developing countries (ICTD), including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities on Country in Australia.
Our research philosophies:
- Designing with communities, not for them
- Long-term and reciprocal engagement with communities
- Focus on the strength and capabilities of communities, rather than their weaknesses
- Fostering DIY and Making Practices in Low Socioeconomic Communities (ARC funded)
This project aims to create novel ways through which DIY and Making skills can be developed in low SES communities. - Designing Advocacy
This project works with a range of stakeholders with reduced agency to develop methods for the inclusion of their perspectives in the technology design process.
